Kyle Meredith caught up with Peyton List, whose career has taken her from Disney Channel’s Jessie to kicking ass in Cobra Kai. Now, she’s headed back to the afterlife with School Spirits Season 2. Listen above or wherever you get your podcasts.
The Paramount+ show returns with even more mysteries, twists, and — thanks to List’s Maddie being possessed — some serious dual-role acting. “We had to figure out the quirks, the mannerisms, everything,” she said of playing both Maddie and her 1950s ghost inhabitant.
Of course, this isn’t List’s only recent spectral role, as she starred in Netflix’s Girl Haunts Boy, making her something of Hollywood’s go-to ghost. “It was ridiculous,” she admitted, laughing. “But I loved both scripts, and I wasn’t going to choose.” The challenge of playing two different spirits was worth it, though, as School Spirits continues to build an original, practical-effects-driven ghost world. “We all sit around debating ghost rules,” she joked.
And then there’s Cobra Kai, which wraps up its six-season run this year. List reflected on her journey with Tori, a character she’s seen evolve in ways she never expected. “I thought I was just guest-starring,” she said. “Now, I care so much that I actually went to the writers about her ending.” With the show coming to a close, she’s got big plans — including an upcoming, still-under-wraps movie she calls a dream project. “I wing everything and hope it works out,” she said. So far, it definitely has.
